Author's Note: This story was written as a birthday fic for freddiejoey also it is a sequel to the one I wrote last year. (TTLDU) It is mainly from the perspective of OCs and I am quite pleased with them and might do more. Thanks to fredbassett for the beta, but any mistakes are all mine.  Enjoy.

They had seen anomalies before. The British liaison had helped set up their ARC to deal with it and from there on, the AARC flourished. One special team co-ordinated with others all over the country to deal with the anomalies and it was that one special team that kept Australia safe.

The AARC was just like any of the other ARCs around the world; they had their own science department to look in to the anomalies, and their own techs and soldiers with their specialized skills and experience in the cities and outback of their country, but when one particular anomaly opened up and the Leaellynasaura came through, it was the start of a problem that none of them had expected.

“I’m getting calls from all over, Lewis!” Carrie Morrison called out from her station, her eyes focused on her screens rather than on her boss as he came storming from his office. “There’s anomalies opening all over the country, but the ADD is only registering one!”

Lewis scowled.  “Well, sweetheart, is this thing tuned in properly?”

“It’s not a damned radio, Lewis and don’t call me sweetheart! The AD is calibrated perfectly. Felix has upgraded it but we haven’t encountered anything like this before. There are numerous incursions which we can handle, but this is something else entirely.”

Lewis Sabian unbuttoned the top three buttons on his shirt—the damned shirt was far too restricting and uncomfortable—and he scrunched the sleeves up above his elbows.  He was going to have to do something he didn’t want to do. When it came to situations like this, which were rare, there was only one person he could talk to for help.  He really didn’t like talking to the guy, but maybe…they could help.  They were after all, considered the so called experts in this.

“Okay, Carrie… call James Lester in London.  Let’s see what the Poms can do.”

The young blonde field co-ordinator was already doing so before he even gave the order, in addition to directing the teams throughout the entire country.

Carrie was good at things like that.

 ----------

Lewis wasn’t keen on having the British actually come over and tell them what to do.  He wasn’t very happy to find out from Maken that the two senior members of the British team had been caught in the plane’s restroom at it like a couple of horny teenagers.

He wasn’t happy about a lot of things because that was just him.

“What were they thinking?”  Sabian said as they followed the Brits and Carson’s team down the corridor.

“Just call him, Becker,” Maken said, “We’ll have no problem if you do that. Besides, Anderson and Becker are more than professional. It was one mishap.”

“A mishap?  Felix letting Mr Bigglesworth out of the menagerie was a mishap!  The poor bloke is called Hilary!”

That’s what bothers you, sir?”

“Everything bothers me.  The bloody weather bothers me. These anomalies bother me and god knows that Felix does too! Him and his OCD is a nightmare!  That woman….” Lewis pointed at the chirpy bubbly woman who was virtually skipping to keep up with everyone.

“Jess Parker?”

“Yeah her!  That cheery optimism and that smile of hers bother me, no one should be that happy all the time! Look, Chris, if Becker and Anderson want to do that kind of stuff to each other… fine, but not when they’re on duty and certainly not in the restroom of a plane!”

“Okay, that was a little excessive, but it’s obvious they care about each other. I think it’s quite nice… you know… when two people care about each other?”

Chris was hinting at something.  Lewis didn’t like it when people hinted. He growled a warning at his second in command but Maken just sighed and shook his head.

They followed the others out onto a loading bay, where several military trucks and vehicles were being equipped below. The Brits were already arming up, as were the others, but Lewis just stood overlooking them all, his arms folded across his chest and a scrutinising glare focusing on Anderson and his team.

The young blonde woman and the geek, Temple, were helping each other get their EMDs prepped. They were looking at each other with loving gazes, whispering and touching each other when they thought no one was watching them.

That was obviously a couple who cared about one another.  Lewis could see they had known each other for a while and had this trust and bond tightly formed.

The two men however, the so called leaders of this team, were something different.

“Are you telling me I can’t take the shotgun?”

“Why do you need to?”

“Why did you even ask me that question?”

“Do you want me to make it an order?”

“You’re pulling rank on me now?”

“Are you going to be a whiny little girl?”

“Do you always have to be an utter arsehole?”

There was conflict. Clearly the kind that they thrived on and it was probably accepted over there—though knowing James Lester, Lewis couldn’t understand why or how—but it wasn’t convincing him that they were any better at this job than his own guys. Couples serving on the same team were a sure thing for trouble, especially if both involved were supposed to be in charge.

Lewis Sabian was nearly always good with his first impressions and instincts on others, he could sum anyone up quite quickly, but he also knew to trust the people he worked with. Maken and Carson were good men and over the few years they’ve worked together, Lewis had come to trust their judgements too. If they said these guys were okay… well he would have to see for himself.

Lewis sneered.   “Really, Chris… fancy calling your son, Hilary!”

“I don’t think Captain Becker likes his name either, Lewis. Just let it rest.”

“The poor fella! If those two are in a relationship, I damned well hope Irish is making a man out of him!”

“Oh Jesus, Lewis! What the hell?”

“With a name like Hilary? He needs all the man he can get! Look, I have no qualms about them blokes pluggin’ each other’s holes…”  Maken cringed and shook his head in dismay. “Are you? Did that experience with that lifeguard fella on Bondi make you all squeamy?”

“He was giving me mouth to mouth, sir. Saving my life.”

“I bet he was.”

“The Woolungasaurus threat was very real! I nearly drowned!”

“Drowned in soppy man love? I don’t want to know how you felt about the guy! Look… I’ve been told these Poms are the best. So far I’ve yet to be convinced. They had better convince me, Chris.”

“They will sir. They will.”

“Oh…. is that Parker woman staying?”   Lewis’ eyes widened as the little brunette came bounding up to him, her creepy large hat brim flopping over her face. “Oh hell no.”

“You’re just a sad bitter and twisted man, Lewis… aren’t you?” Chris smiled and patted the man on the back, getting an instant scowl for even touching him.

“Yeah! Deal with it!”

“We all do, every second of the day. Look, go easy on them… they’re not used to your charm.”  Maken laughed as he jumped off the edge of the loading bay and climbed into one of the jeeps next to his friend.

Lewis didn’t appreciate being abandoned like that.

“So!”  Jess Parker grinned like sunshine and took off the hat.  “Take me to your hub! I can’t wait to see what set-up you’ve got!”

Sabin almost freaked out when Jess Parker linked arms with him and dragged him back into the building.

No one touched him! Why was she touching him?

“This is going to be so much fun!”

No. It wasn’t.  She was touching him!

Jess Parker also looked to be the observant type. Having read her profile and knowing what she was capable of, Lewis had to be careful how he acted around Carrie back at the hub.

Lewis had built up a reputation around here and he wasn’t going to have anyone ruin that. He had set up rules about relationships in the work place and Lewis certainly prided himself on keeping a tightly run ship. No one was to know that somewhere beneath his tough mean interior there was a soft spot for Carrie Morrison.

The woman who really ran the AARC.

Poor guy; by the time the ARC team get through with him, he won't know up from down.
Jess alone would be enough to take him out!
Fun!

Thanks very much! I see this Lewis character as the opposite of Lester. Not so much sarcasm as blatant tell it how it is.

Yeah, pretty sure Jess can take him out!

Cheers!

This IS going to be so much fun *eg*

I like the idea of teams in other continents or countries. Neat!

Thanks Nietie!

I am hoping to do more. I've always wondered about how other Countries deal with the Anomalies.

Chars again!

I'm sure the team will grow on Lewis ;)

More?

Yeah. I think they will. I see him as very much the opposite of Lester in regards to speaking his mind. Subtle as brick and not really sarcastic? I'm not sure...I hope to explore him further.

Yeah I hope to do more. Not sure when, but I'd like to. It was fun to come up with some other characters and another ARC. :)

Cheers!

This is a great set up! I can tell the UKARC team are really going to shake things up!!!

NB. You might want to PM freddie to let her know about this, I'm not sure she's reading denial any more.

That's my (grown-up) Lewis, a little boy from a fic I once wrote, timey-wimey with Ryan and a soldier called Hugh-McAllister, and they had adopted a son, Lewis, only Ryan came back through an anomaly and didn't know anything about it! All very angsty and fun *g* It was called A Life Never Lived and can be found by my Lewis Ryan-McAllister tag *veg*
So there you go. Yay for all the Lewis' :D

Oh sweet!

You know I do despair on the length of my reading list. I have so much to catch up on. I wish RL didn't keep interfering!

Yay indeed! Thanks again!

Heehee! Oh dear, this isn't going to end well, is it? Especially if everyone keeps annoying Becker by calling him Hilary and not letting him have his gun!
basched From: basched Date: June 9th, 2013 09:34 pm (UTC) (Link)

They really shouldn't annoy Becker should they? ;)

Thanks again D! Much appreciated!

**It’s not a damned radio, Lewis and don’t call me sweetheart! The AD is calibrated perfectly.**

Hee - and now they have those pesky Poms to deal with! Though Matt and Hil doing the mile high club might break down the 'uptight Brit' stereotype...
