Author's Note:
This is a happy birthday fic for my friend goddessofbirth.  She gave me the prompt of "Fucking Readers" I came up with a different story at first, but that got too complicated and my mind couldn't get it to work for me. This is something that came to me quickly, but I kept it short. Don't know if its any good, but I hope you all enjoy. Oh, this is also unbetaed, so there could be yogis.

Happy birthday Goddess. :)

He had heard of the folk who could do the impossible. They looked inside your head and found out all your secrets. They could tell what you were feeling and therefore knew your weaknesses. His ma told stories about those what could communicate with the dead and move things with just thinking them. The possibility of someone doing all that, just by thinking. It was frightening.

He hadn’t met one. The only person on his world who claimed to have met a Reader, said that his arm was ripped off just because the Reader wished it. Course turned out that weren’t the case, as the so called Reader was a drunkard who had accidently chopped the idiot’s arm off with a rusty axe, but the little boy had believed it. He still believed the stories of Readers now that he was a man, he honestly thought that there were those kind of people out there, the freaks who weren’t normal, who were dangerous and a serious threat to those that was .

Fancy talking to dead people, it didn’t make sense. They were dead, so what could they possibly talk about? Reading minds, it could make a person vulnerable and in his job, it was dangerous to be vulnerable. People knew too much stuff about you, you’d end up dead as a…dead thing.

Marco had said some things about Readers, on that night they was round the fire eatin’ their grub. He said that they weren’t born like most people were, they was made in tubes in “fucked up” labs back on the Core worlds. They were grown to be “Si-kick” alliance officers, secret police to hunt down criminals and such.

“How can people be grown in a gorram tube?” Jayne had asked, chewing on his cigar. “They won’t fit.”

                “I dunno!”

“Readers.”  Jayne leant back against the tree and lit the cigar stub. He took a few puffs in contemplation and then came to his own conclusion. “Mebbe they’re small an’ tiny and can be squished in them tubes with a stick or somethin’.  That might make sense.”

“Poke ‘em with a stick?” asked Marco. “That sounds stupid.”

“Well, I suppose you gotta poke ‘em with somethin’!”

Though if Jayne, Marco, or even Sweaty-Beard-Face had been a Reader themselves, then they would have sensed the approach of two thieves who came and stole their merchandise.  It would have saved Jayne long arduous hours of gorram tracking.

“You wouldn’t have come aboard Serenity, if you were a Reader.”

Jayne grunted and took a long drag on his cigar. He placed one hand behind his head and closed his eyes as he breathed in deep, releasing a plume of smoke mere moments later. There was a wriggle of a slick warm body against him and then a small finger ran across his forehead.

                “Am I a freak?”

Jayne scowled and clenching his cigar between his teeth, he used his arm to flip the naked woman onto his lap. His palm slapped against her bottom.

“Ya ain’t a freak, moonbrain. Don’t think you ever are, or let anyone else think on that.”

River smiled at his sentiment and leaned forward to give the merc a kiss on the cheek. Jayne ran his hand across her sweaty back and rubbed the flesh of her bottom where he had slapped it, before she nestled once again, curling up snuggly in his lap.

“I’m small and tiny.” She mumbled against his chest hair. “I need squishing.”

“Nah ya don’t, little nut. Jus’ need some lovin’.”

                “Rough-break the bed-break the wall-oh god-screaming out loud-Jayne loving?”

“That sounds like a good idea, bao bei. How ya want it this time?” Jayne took out the cigar and placed it on the floor by the bed. Both his arms snaked round her tiny fragile and dangerous body and pulled her tightly to his hardening. “Wanna go on top, or on the bottom? From the front or from behind?”

River gazed into his eyes and was lost for a moment, but he weren’t stupid. He knew what she was doing.

“Hang on. Hold on!” she breathed, rolling her hips against his groin. She held up her arms and then rose up to grab at the grate in the ceiling. Jayne laughed and scrambled quickly to his knees so her strong crushing legs could wrap around his shoulders.  “You can poke me now!”

“Huh?!” Jayne’s mouth muffled against her inner thigh. She gasped at the sensation of his goatee, but looked down to meet his gaze. She frowned a face just like she knew he would do and adopted a gruff Rim accent.

“You gotta poke ‘em with somethin’!” she growled.

“Fuckin’ Readers!” He grinned as his tongue lavished at the flesh of her leg. “Can’t stay in yer own gorram head, can ya?!”

Though, this time he didn’t mind. Yeah, this Reader was dangerous, she was more dangerous than any of ‘em. She knew all his secrets, his desires and wotnot, she knew his weaknesses but River Tam was his.

He weren’t scared of her anymore.

You liked?! Yay! Then I did well!

So pleased that you liked this, and well I knew you had written some angst recently, so I thought something lighter, funnier and sexier (ish) would be all kinds of shiny.

Thank you and I hope that the rest of your birthday goes superduperly!

I'm so glad that Jayne isn't afraid of her. He can keep her docile and happy with some hot sex and all will be well in their world. :)

Oh Jayne...how prescient you are, even if you don't realize it!

Some mighty shiny work you've done here, basched, and I know I'm all kinds of glad you're the type of friend to do something like this for a amigo's birthday. Have to say, even if it's unintentional, I love how you explore Jayne's evolving POV on the concept of Readers, especially the part with River showing that Jayne has come to realize that a Reader's life isn't all that great with their ability to read minds.

Thank you General! :)

I feel that writing a fic for folk into fanfiction is one of the best presents ever. A story says it all, especially when its written for that one person. I like to do it and others have done so for me.

Thank you very much for reading this and leaving a lovely review. I'm pleased you liked. :)
