Danger - Keep Away

Title - Danger-Keep Away
Genre - Songfic, hurt/comfort
Characters/Pairing: Rayne.
Summary: It's the only way they can feel anything.
Author's notes: Up late one morning listening to my i-pod. Slipknot's Danger-Keep Away came on and this is what came to mind. I do recommend you listen to the song to get to feel of it more, but you don't have to. Beta'd by the most excellent dude [info]bigbadjayne mistakes are mine not his!

Disclaimer: Just to make sure, I do not own the words to the song, they were written by Corey Taylor & Slipknot. I just used 'em for the fic.

“That place in my mind….is that space that you call mine.”

Where had he been all this time?

As he approached her, stripping down, tearing the shirt from his body and revealing his heaving broad chest, he didn’t know the answer.

“We too feel alone.”

He heard her say that often, or rather her voice echoed in his mind, but he had shut it out. He had tried to shut her out as well, sever her from his life, his routine. He had wanted nothing to do with her, but no matter how hard he tried, he kept returning to her and she kept accepting him, without question.

As he stands before her, stripping the last of his clothes and discarding them on the floor, he knows this could end him, how dangerous she could be if he went too far, but he can't control that logical part of him, the place that makes the the cold, hard decisions...it keeps getting ripped to shreds when he sees her. He feels exposed, but he has been waiting for this. Jayne had tried to cut her out of this indulgent routine and now weeks down the line, he can’t fight it any longer. It had been so long and the danger was imminent. Jayne was not going to be able to control himself this time.

Grabbing hold of River’s neck, he shoved her frail body up against the wall and pinned her there. His heart was pounding, his blood was rushing…throbbing through his veins and fueling a primal urge that was swelling up in his body. With his other hand, he ripped the dress from her form and glared over her naked flesh.

She didn’t argue at all when he took her, spread her legs and buried himself deep in her sex with vicious thrusts. There in the corridor, whilst the others were sleeping, he pounded her fiercely into the wall, feeling her pleasure but muffling her screams with his mouth. She didn’t—couldn’t—say a thing, but he saw in her eyes, as he still drove hard into her, that she understood, that he needed this. They both did.

“We too feel alone.”

“No, Crazy.” Jayne sneered and pulled himself out from her after he spent himself inside. He let her drop to the floor in a wearied slump. “Don’t even try to put meanin’ t’this. I ain’t a parta you. Get over it.”

“Pieces are only as good as the whole.” She gasped, wiping her hands down the insides of her legs, the places where Jayne still seeped upon her.

The broken crew, the broken pieces of what they had once been before Wash’s death, was dour and cold. Before all this shit with Parliament, there had been something, Jayne had felt different, but now?  He didn’t want to admit that she had helped him from going over the edge, that he was helping her heal as well.

He didn’t want to dwell on her being in his mind or hearing her voice in his sleep.

Jayne didn’t want to admit that she had crept inside of him.

Danger!! Keep away! Retreat! Back off!

He was close to exploding, to yelling at her that he didn’t need or want her any more. They were finished.

But when he looked at her…naked and covered with his sweat, with the bruises from his pinching fingers…he knew that she wouldn’t leave him alone. That he could not leave her alone.

River gathered up the tattered remains of her dress and began to walk away towards her room.

“You have something to say?” she asked, tilting her head to the side. The sweat drenched and tangled locks flopped over her face.

Jayne didn’t want to tell her.  Engaging in what they did, out in the open…raw…unhindered, helped him to not feel numb.

“Stop it. Stop makin’ me do this.”

“I’m not making you do anything.” River continued to walk away.

“Dammit! I’m talkin’ at ya, ya crazy san-ba! I got somethin’ to say!”

Jayne blocked her path, caring little that he was still naked as she.

“This ain’t happenin’ again! No more! Stop fuckin’ with my mind, mooney! Y’hear?”

River nodded. “I understand…but you’ll still die right next to me. In the end.”

“We too feel alone, but we don’t have to be.”

Everything inside him was—and always had—warned him to keep away from River Tam. She was dangerous…just as he was, but Jayne knew as he watched her disappear, that he could never keep away.

Oh my, it's been so long since I've read any Rayne! My babies!! It's always such a struggle between the two of them, isn't it? Because Jayne never wants to give in but he can't help it, and River may not like it, but she understands their inevitability.

Hey G!

I feel the same way...recently I haven't had the inspiration to write Rayne, but when I heard the song...i had to write it!

“I understand…but you’ll still die right next to me. In the end.”

That is SUCH an awesome line. Loved it!

I've missed Rayne's particular brand of conflict. <3

Thanks Merc! Although I cannot take credit for Mr Corey Taylor's lines, even if it is perfect for River. I shall have edit the headers and make that disclaimer!

Chars!! XD

Hey Ali!!

The actual song is quite chilling and sad and had a dangerous vibe to it...Rayne totally reflected that.

Thanks! Good to have written Rayne again. Hope I can get more done!

OMG! Loved this ficlit. Lovey, dovey Rayne is good, but I seem to really enjoy ones where they are trying to stop, at all costs, the inevitable. Thank you so much for this! I've been missing all the stories.
